What You Need for a Small Warehouse Conveyor Production Line

Amaury Picard

If you own a small business that manufactures goods, and you are expanding your operations, you may be considering a conveyor as part of that expansion. For smaller operations, you may be looking at the possibility of buying a stand-alone conveyor and the supplies needed to create your own custom conveyor line. You may also be considering conveyor lines that allow for additional expansion as your business expands. If this is the case, here are a few of the items you will need, beyond the conveyor itself, to create a suitable and safe production line.

Conveyor Guarding

One of the main considerations you need to take into account is conveyor guarding. In fact, guarding may be required in your area as part of your safety and security inspection. The guarding may be a snap-on design for smaller conveyor systems. This guarding will cover the sides of the rail to prevent clothing or body parts from getting caught in the conveyor causing injury. For larger conveyor lines, you can upgrade to a metal cage-style conveyor guarding that will keep the area securely enclosed. The metal styles will lock in place and have a lock and key security system.

Padding

In order to reduce breakdown and issues of the conveyor guarding, you may want to consider padding. The padding can be placed on corners, edges, and around curves to help reduce damage and secure the guarding on these areas. The padding is generally in a self-stick design with an adhesive side and the foam facing outward. The padding is generally available in 50 ft rolls and can be purchased in larger rolls as well.

End Caps and Product Stops

One issue that you may be concerned with is collecting the product safely or preventing it from falling off the conveyor. For this reason, you will want to consider end caps and product stops. The end caps can be snapped on to the end of the conveyors, and product stops can be snapped in place as well. You can also place end caps, and product stops on end ramps for product collection and sorting.

These are just a few of the items you will need to create a safe and expandable conveyor line. Keep in mind, as you expand your conveyor system you will need more pieces and a system that is more permanent. If you are ready to buy your supplies, contact a local conveyor dealer like ESS Engineering for pricing.
